In 2007, Hugo narrowly missed paralysis after breaking his neck in a diving accident. In the mix of emotions that followed came a drive to follow their passion for exploration pinned on three values; purpose, discovery and always doing them together.
Ross and Hugo have since gone on to complete many expeditions which include rowing the Atlantic Ocean, attempting to cross the Greenland ice cap, climbing Mt Elbrus and reaching several of the world’s continental poles of inaccessibility.
Over the years the twins have compared clothing systems and kit of past explorers against the latest modern equivalent to understand the performance differences of the kit, food and clothing. Working with scientific teams they have provided a unique insight into how the human body is affected by technology.
The twins are in a unique position to question our understanding of the status quo, and in recent years have conducted human performance studies to help understand the benefits or disadvantages of certain ideas, myths and concepts.
Comparing various diets and fitness programs, they have studied the differences of a vegan vs omnivore diet, weighted vs body weight gym program, animal protein vs plant protein, and a 20 minute vs 40 minute gym program to discover if 40 minutes offers twice the benefits.
They have reached several of the world's poles of inaccessibility while testing technology that is helping to fight climate change. They have used electric motorbikes and more recently they have tested a yacht powered by an electric motor and hydrogen fuel cell. These projects have supported the United Nations, Sustainable Development Goals.
They continue to explore the world to help our understanding and knowledge of geography, technology, science, human performance, history and in doing so proving we're all stronger together.
They have partnered with multiple brands over the years, including:
